Extreme supermoon simply means the moon will be a little closer to the earth than it has been in the last 18 years. This results in a higher likelihood that areas prone to earthquakes that are primed and ready to go off, might be triggered by additional stresses in the earth's crust caused by the gravitational pull/tug from the moon.

Major tsunami after 8.9 Japan quake - 11/03/2011

TOKYO (AP) — A powerful tsunami spawned by the largest earthquake in Japan's recorded history slammed the eastern coast Friday, sweeping away boats, cars, homes and people as widespread fires burned out of control. Tsunami warnings blanketed the entire Pacific, as far away as South America, Canada, Alaska and the entire U.S. West Coast.
